Authorities had to shut down a Brooklyn intersection on Wednesday as they investigated what police described as a"suspicious device" found during the execution of a court-authorized search warrant, preliminary information shows, according to law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case.
The sources described the item as resembling a pipe bomb, which triggered department protocol. It was sent for testing to determine whether it could be explosive. Meanwhile, officers had to shut down West Second Street, from Avenue Y to Avenue Z in Gravesend, around 1 p.m., as a precaution.Police had been executing a search warrant in connection with a ghost gun investigation when officers came across the suspicious device, according to sources familiar with the matter. The area was closed down until just after 3 p.m., when the device was removed for further inspection and there were"no known threats to public safety." Sources said one person had been taken into custody for questioning, but there was no word of any charges filed.The device has been safely removed.
