Batavia, N.Y. — The two suspects charged in the death of a Genesee County Sheriff's Office sergeant were arraigned Monday.According to authorities, GCSO Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello was escorting Elmore and the other suspect, Lyndsey Wilcox, 39, out of Batavia Downs early March 10 after a reported fight. Elmore allegedly reentered the building, hit Sanfratello with a metal jewelry chain and put him in a chokehold.Bystanders recall comforting Genesee County sergeant in his final moments at Batavia Downs
The sergeant, who had been working a special detail at the casino, became unresponsive and was later pronounced dead. "It's a significant case. We had a law enforcement officer in the performance of his duty who passed away as a result of the actions of the defendant," said Genesee County District Attorney Kevin Finnell after Monday's proceedings. "It's the most significant case I can imagine and it will be treated that way."have," explained defense attorney Zack Baisley.
