Schertz police arrested a suspected burglar who reportedly barricaded himself inside a residence for several hours Thursday morning.
At about 4:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2100 block of Windy Meadow Court for a burglary in progress, according to a Schertz Police Department news release. When officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Kodee Lee Dunfee, fled in his vehicle and crashed a few houses down.
Dunfee ran into a residence, whose door was unlocked, in the 300 block of Crepe Myrtle Lane. The homeowners evacuated the house, and Dunfee barricaded himself in it.Officers attempted to communicate with Dunfee, who refused to exit the house for about three hours. SWAT personnel, the crisis negotiation team and other departments were called to assist.
