Jamar Banks, a 52-year-old man from Brooklyn, has been arrested in connection with two separate stabbing incidents on the New York City subway.

A man accused of stabbing two people in separate incidents on a New York City subway reportedly has a lengthy criminal record. Jamar Banks of Brooklyn was arrested on Sunday in connection to the pair of stabbing attacks that police said happened in the subway system in Manhattan and the Bronx within the first two days of the new year. On New Year's Day, New York City police responded to a stabbing on the Northbound 2 Train at 9:40 a.m.

According to police, officers found the wounded victim, a 31-year-old man. Banks is accused of approaching the man and starting a verbal dispute before he stabbed him in the back. Banks had fled the subway station before authorities arrived. The next morning, an off-duty Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee was stabbed in the back and armpit with a knife on the Northbound 5 Train platform. Authorities alleged that Banks was the suspect as well in the second stabbing incident. The 47-year-old male victim was also approached by Banks before he initiated an argument, according to police. Banks again took off after the alleged attack. Following the attacks, police issued a bulletin for the attacker, asking for the public's help in finding the man they believed was connected to a 'citywide assault pattern.' Police then identified the sought attacker as 52-year-old Jamar Banks after the wanted flyer was issued. He was charged with first-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to a statement issued by the NYPD’s Public Information Office. The New York Post reported that officers were warned to use 'extreme caution' when approaching Banks because authorities believed he was carrying the alleged attack weapon.. Those arrests listed charges for alleged attempted murder, weapons possession, assault, criminal trespassing, turnstile jumping and petty larceny, the New York Post reported
