Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Service were all called to Smithdown Road
, near to Asda, in Wavertree at around 9am on Thursday, June 6. It followed a report a man was spotted damaging cars and shouting at people.
The man then went inside a property on Thorney Croft Road. When emergency services arrived at the flat he threw several items at officers from the address. There was a huge emergency services at the scene, including dozens of firefighters and police officers. Riot police, forensics and an incident commander were also called to the scene. A cordon was in place near to Thorney Croft Road and Smithdown Road southbound was closed from Wellington Avenue to Gainsborough Road while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Ugbo Onyeka, aged 33, of Smithdown Road, Wavertree was arrested and charged with section 20 assault and nine counts of assaulting an emergency worker. Onyeka was remanded into custody and appeared at South Sefton Magistrates Court on Friday, June 7.
