A traffic stop outside the Marysville Costco escalated into a fatal incident when a suspect dragged a police officer with their vehicle before crashing and bursting into flames.
A suspect is dead after an officer was dragged by a vehicle during a traffic stop outside the Marysville Costco near Lakewood High School Tuesday night. Police said that around 8 p.m., a Marysville officer made a routine traffic stop on the south side of the Costco building at 16616 Twin Lakes Ave. It's unclear exactly what happened, but the stopped car then took off, dragging the officer with it a short distance before hitting the side of the building and bursting into flames.
The suspect died at the scene. Their cause of death has yet to be determined. 'At this time, our detectives with the Snohomish County SMART team are still gathering all the information regarding the stop and the entire incident -- as far as what it's like to be an officer in traffic stops -- right now our focus is the investigation and the incident that happened,' a SMART spokesperson told KOMO News. Deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Arlington Police Department assisted.
