A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Uptown Dallas this month.
Marcus Jawan Branch was booked into jail Feb. 9 on murder charge in the slaying of Jerriun Maxie, 42. Branch’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.with a gunshot wound outside Sidebar in the 2600 block of Howell Street, near Routh Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Surveillance footage from that time shows Branch arguing with someone while holding a handgun, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit. The person with whom Branch is arguing is not seen holding a weapon.
A crowd around the two scattered after someone fired a gun, the affidavit says. The footage shows Maxie running before falling and hitting his head on an iron handrail.A witness told police that Branch told him, “I just shot a dude. The guy punched me and I shot him,” according to the affidavit. Another witness said Branch told him that Maxie punched him so “I fired a shot because I thought I was about to get jumped,” the affidavit says.
