Authorities arrested the suspect in the 2018 murder of the late Trece Martires City Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan.
A statement from the Cavite Police Provincial Office said the suspect, identified as Ariel Fletchetro Paiton alias Dagul and Labuyo, was arrested in Antipolo, Rizal, on March 10, after five years of hiding.
During the implementation of the arrest warrant, Paiton fired his gun at the operatives in an attempt to escape, prompting arresting officers to shoot back. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound on his left shoulder.The suspect was brought to the hospital for medical treatment and was later turned over to Trece Martires City Police Station for custody.On July 7, 2018, Lubigan was slain along Trece-Indang Road in Barangay Luciano in Trece Martires.
The late vice mayor’s wife, current Trece Martires Mayor Gemma Buendia Lubigan, shared the police report on Facebook. “I’ll never lose my faith in You Oh Lord! Salamat po sa lahat ng mga taong naging instrumento ,” the mayor wrote on her post.
