A suspect has been detained following a multi-vehicle collision in San Francisco on Sunday evening that resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident is believed to be linked to a hit-and-run on Interstate 280 moments prior. Seven vehicles, including a Waymo self-driving car, were involved in the collision on Sixth Street. One person and a dog were pronounced dead at the scene, while another person was taken to a trauma center.
Police in San Francisco have detained someone suspected in a multi-vehicle collision Sunday evening that killed one person and sent others to the hospital.
Around 6:10 p.m., emergency responders got a call about the collision on Sixth Street, between Harrison and Bryant streets. One person and a dog were pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department said. One person was taken to a trauma center with injuries. The rest received minor injuries or did not require medical attention.
Police have detained a possible suspect driver who is being treated at the hospital, the department said. Detectives are trying to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the collision.“There was some considerable energy in this collision,” said the Fire Department spokesperson.
