CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A 61-year-old Cleveland man who police say walked up to a woman sitting on a park bench and shot her in the head earlier this month is being held without bond.
Marvin Rachells pleaded not guilty at his Tuesday arraignment in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. He is accused of aggravated murder, murder and felonious assault in the death of 58-year-old Lisa Alexander Brownlee.Judge Shannon Gallagher ordered Rachells to remain in the Cuyahoga County Jail. The case was assigned to Judge Emily Hagan.
The shooting took place about 7:40 p.m. May 6 at a small park on the corner of Superior Avenue and East 123rd Street. Brownlee was sitting on a bench near a bus stop when Rachells drove by and parked around the corner, police wrote in Cleveland Municipal Court filings. Rachells put on a mask, walked up to Brownlee and shot her in the head with a 9 mm pistol, the filings said.
Police arrested Rachells the next day. Officers seized guns, suspected drugs and more than $61,000 in cash during a search of his home, prosecutors said.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
