A suspect has been arrested in connection to an April 18 homicide in Denver’s La Alma-Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Investigators who reviewed images from a nearby HALO camera found footage from about 10:50 p.m. Monday of a man checking car doors along the east side of Mariposa Street, the affidavit said. A short time later the man, shining a light, approached another person on the sidewalk. The footage shows the other person falling to the ground and the man with the light leaning over them.
At the scene, investigators focused on a nearby home where the front door was open and where they determined Douglas had lived with a housemate. The housemate was not home at the time the body was found. Police eventually contacted her and she cooperated with investigators, helping with information on the victim. The house where the pair resided was burglarized, according to the affidavit.
Investigators eventually were led to the suspect by the victim’s cell phone. On Wednesday, police traced the phone to the area of West 13th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive and the suspect was contacted and arrested on unrelated warrants. Stig Strong, 33, is being held on investigation of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and burglary. Strong was also in possession of the victim’s house key and his car key when arrested, according to the affidavit. The police investigation will be presented to the Denver District Attorney’s Office for consideration of formal charges.
