Police on Sunday arrested a man whom a witness identified as the perpetrator in a deadly shooting that occurred last month outside a North Side apartment complex. Kyle Jones, 35, was charged with murder in connection with the death of 26-year-old Jerome Johns. He is being held on $500,000 bail. On Feb. 21, officers were called to the Coronado Apartments at 9525 Lorene Lane in response to a shooting. There, they found Johns dead in the street from a gunshot wound.A witness, a woman, told police that Jones was the shooter and that he was staying at a nearby apartment, an affidavit supporting his arrest said. She said Jones and Johns had been in an oral dispute shortly before the shooting.
She told police that she saw Jones shoot a gun at the victim but that she didn’t realize Johns had been hit until she checked on him, the affidavit said. She then called 911.
