Austin police are seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect who allegedly interfered with an emergency phone call at a local Walgreens, following an at
tempted shoplifting incident.
The incident occurred on July 11 around 10 a.m. at the Walgreens located at 6812 North Lamar Boulevard. According to the Austin Police Department, employees began monitoring a couple after being alerted by a nearby convenience store worker about a potential shoplifting attempt. The situation escalated when the female suspect became verbally argumentative with staff. As an employee announced they were calling 911, the male suspect reportedly grabbed the employee's phone while shouting, "I'm not stealing your phone!" A chase ensued, with the employee eventually retrieving their phone.The suspect is described as a Black male in his early 30s with a muscular build and a tattoo on his right arm and bicep.
