CINCINNATI - The 19-year-old accused of murdering a teenager in an “execution-style” shooting is facing additional charges in the case.on two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault, one count of aggravated murder and one count of having weapons under disability Thursday, April 30.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich describes the crime as a “calculated and senseless act of violence. ” “This was not a split-second decision or an act of self-defense. This was a deliberate execution-style killing of a 15-year-old. The charges reflect the severity of that conduct, and we intend to present the full scope of this evidence to ensure accountability,” Pillich said in a statement.
Jah’Meier Jackson, 19, was arrested Tuesday for the murder of 15-year-old Nazir Owens, according to the Cincinnati Police Department. The shooting happened inside the laundry room of a North Avondale apartment building in the 800 block of Glenwood Avenue. According to the prosecutor’s office, Jackson shot Owens multiple times despite the teen putting his hands in the air with no weapon. Owens, who was still alive at the time, rushed behind a nearby door in the laundry room for safety.
Jackson left the room and returned 20 seconds later to retrieve a pistol the victim had dropped. The suspect then approached the already-injured teen and shot him one more time, killing him, the prosecutor’s office says. Police were dispatched to the apartment building at 12:02 a.m. where they found Owens with multiple gunshot wounds. Cincinnati Police Homicide Unit Det.
David Gregory tells FOX19 NOW that Owens and Jackson were friends. He could not say what initiated the shooting. At the time, it was unknown if anyone had seen Owens between the day he was reported missing and the day he was killed. A Cincinnati Public Schools spokesperson even confirmed the teen was enrolled at Taft High School for the academic year, but could not provide attendance records due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act .
It was later discovered Owens had been incarcerated for a crime he committed in Clermont County, and was later transferred to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center, Det. David Gregory confirmed Friday, May 1. Gregory could not say when or why Owens was arrested, but he did say he was released on probation several weeks before his murder. A spokesperson for Hamilton County Juvenile Court says they have no records of Owens in their system.
