CARROLL, Ohio —former basketball coach is behind bars.
"In counseling, I’ve heard over and over again, the truth sets you free, and I’m living proof of that," said Makenzee Mason, a former Bloom-Carroll High School student. Makenzee said her truth goes back to her days as a basketball player at Bloom-Carroll, between 2018 and 2020.She said her coach at the time and the athletic director,"There was a lot of nights crying, a lot of nights that my parents didn’t understand why I was so upset," she said. "I feel naïve. I feel used."
When she was a high schooler, Makenzee said Little also manipulated her, but she couldn't see that at the time.prosecutor’s office and the detectivesAfter processing the trauma, she said she knew she needed to report Little's actions. Little was sentenced to 54 months in prison after pleading guilty.
Now, Makenzee is an incoming senior and college athlete, and she said she hopes sharing her story helps others."There’s a lot of days where I didn’t want my life, and I didn’t quite understand why this battle was given to me," she said. "But in telling my story and coming out with the truth and just being who I am, it’s given me a new perspective on the fact that I’m going to make it through the battle.
