A new survey says 64% of Americans said election-related stress is impacting their holiday plans and 23% are considering skipping Thanksgiving altogether.

However, Dr. Joseph Sharpe, a psychiatrist in Nashville, believes this is an unhealthy approach and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday without politics getting in the way. “In the case of families, these are people that we know and love and have known for a very long time and I ask people to also think about their relationship with that individual that’s deeper than their political beliefs,” said Dr. Sharpe. “If we are not able to talk to that person without some irritability or anger coming into the equation, that’s where we need to draw the line and set boundaries.
