Patients at The Molebridge GP practice in Surrey are worried about the future of their healthcare after the practice's operator announced its decision to exit its contract with the local NHS authority.
Patients at The Molebridge GP practice in Surrey are facing uncertainty about the future of their healthcare after the practice's operator, Aspire Medical Health , announced its decision to exit its contract with Surrey Heartlands NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB). The Molebridge GP Practice, which has surgeries in Fetcham and Leatherhead, serves approximately 6,000 patients.
Aspire Medical Health took over the practices in June 2024, but after only six months, they have decided to leave, citing it as the 'right next step'. This announcement has sparked concerns among patients and local representatives. Caroline Joseph, a patient and Mole Valley district councillor, expressed her worries about the potential closure of the practice, emphasizing the 'huge impact' it would have on the community. She revealed that many people have approached her voicing their anxieties. Chris Coghlan, the MP for Dorking and Horley, and Helen Maguire, the MP for Epsom and Ewell, have also stepped in to address the situation. Both have requested a meeting with Surrey Heartlands ICB to discuss the future of the surgeries. Mr. Coghlan stated his desire for a 'firm commitment' from the ICB that the practice will remain open and services will improve. A spokesperson for Surrey Heartlands ICB assured the public that they are 'working closely with the practice to make alternative arrangements' to ensure the continued operation of the practice. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining both the Leatherhead and Fetcham sites and providing uninterrupted services. While they haven't yet confirmed the specific arrangements, they stressed that 'urgent work is now underway to find a swift solution'. This commitment aims to alleviate the anxieties of patients and local partners during this uncertain period
