: An increase in the cost of living due to surging inflation and the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have pushed nearly 68 million more people into extreme poverty in Asia and the Pacific, the Asian Development Bank said Thursday.
The number was 67.8 million higher than it would have been without the pandemic and soaring inflation. “By strengthening social safety nets for the poor and fostering investment and innovation that creates opportunities for growth and employment, governments in the region can get back on track,“ he added.
