U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Monday suggested that America is"over the hump" in its fight against the novel coronavirus, despite Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, calling the latest data"disturbing."
"It's important to understand, we don't have to wait until we get a vaccine to drive down community transmission," Adams said, according to the local newspaper."If you all take the measures now to lower community spread—wear a mask, wash your hands and watch your distance—we could very quickly get into a better situation in safely reopening.
A day later, Fauci spoke with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell about the president's comments and said he had to disagree. There are currently over 6.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., according to the tracker, and at least 194,547 deaths.
