With the couple reunited, Sophie is determined to discover why her husband, who she thought would leave her alone after what she did to him, decided he wanted to see her. After playing a game of cat and mouse for most of the episode, James and Sophie finally get a chance to talk. The newest episode on the Apple+ TV show also reveals more details about what happened to Phoebe Davis after she left England. While Callum is still trying to resolve that mystery, things might not be as black and white as he imagines. Meanwhile, Sophie and Eliza also finally have a proper conversation, and it looks like Sophie is one step closer to finding out what happened to her mother and thus, who is responsible for her death. What James Is Doing In London, Explained James Might Know More About Sophie's Past Than He Is Letting On Close The opening scenes of Surface season 2, episode 3 go back to the week before James arrives in London. Following his discovery that Sophie faked her death, stole his money, and left the country, James hired someone to try and trace the millions of dollars Sophie walked away with. Upon discovering his wife's whereabouts, he follows her to England and finds a way to get into Quinn and Grace's engagement party. Instead, he makes her run around after him until they have the opportunity to air out their differences. Although retrieving his money and understanding why she did what she did were among the reasons James wanted to see Sophie, he was also curious about what kind of person she had become after starting afresh without him. To his disappointment, Sophie is still the same person who uses people to get what she wants, no matter the cost. He also erroneously assumes that she might be having an affair with Eliza or Callum. With this new information, James is determined to ruin Sophie and not let her get away with what she did to him. Although Sophie tries to explain to her husband why she is really in London, she can't delve into precise details other than she wants to know who she is. What Happened Between Sophie And Eliza At The End Of Surface Season 2 Episode 3 Eliza And Sophie Have A Second Chance To Sort Things Out The relationship between Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Tess/Sophie and Millie Brady's Eliza is one of the most intriguing parts of Surface's second season because not much is known about what happened between them. However, the third episode in the show's sophomore out sheds a bit more light on their past. Eliza reveals to her girlfriend that she and Sophie went horse riding the morning after a night filled with partying. Unfortunately, Eliza got into a terrible accident and Sophie left without telling her friend or telling her where she went despite Eliza needing her. When Sophie returns home, she finds Eliza waiting for her outside her building. This obviously comes as a surprise given that Eliza had told Sophie to stay away from her. But it looks like Eliza is ready to confront whatever occurred in the past and the only way she can face her trauma is if she and Sophie unpack their baggage. She invites Sophie to her family's country house so they can go riding, and Eliza's ex-girlfriend agrees. What Really Happened To Phoebe Davis Phoebe Davis Died Surface season 2, episode 2 revealed that Phoebe Davis died when she was in France. Phoebe had a relationship with Quinn Huntley, who revealed some dark secrets about his family during one of their encounters. She passed on the information to Callum but mysteriously disappeared before she could say anymore. Since the Huntleys are a powerful and very secretive family, they undoubtedly got wind of what Phoebe was up to, forcing her to flee. The French police ruled her death a suicide since she apparently jumped off her balcony, but given what was happening in her life, there is definitely more to the story. Despite leaving the country, the young woman ended up dead. Quinn, on the other hand, seems genuinely shocked by her death and denies being involved in it, even if it means that his secrets are now safe. It remains to be seen if Quinn really is as honest as he claims to be. What Happened Between Sophie And Callum In Surface Season 2 Episode 3 Sophie No Longer Wants To Help Callum Close Callum has been trying to expose the Huntleys since he discovered that Phoebe and Quinn were having an affair. His investigation hit a dead end when she disappeared without a word and then later died. However, with Phoebe dead, Callum is only more determined than ever to expose the Huntleys. The only way he can do that is with Sophie's help. However, Sophie is having second thoughts about going on record and talking about her mother's death given what happened to Phoebe. With James now back in her life, Sophie has a lot more to deal with. She did give Callum the information she discovered about her mother's death in order to point him in the right direction. But as it stands, Sophie will likely not be contacting Callum again until she finds out more when she visits the Huntleys' country home. What To Expect From The Next Episodes Of Surface Season 2 Sophie And James Might Be At War From the first episode of Surface season 2, the show has been setting the stage for what to expect from this riveting chapter. In the final scenes of episode 3, James tells Sophie that it was more painful to know that she had been alive this whole time than to grieve her, because it meant that she didn't want to be with him. He promises her that she will go through the same thing that he has been dealing with. This gives her the chance to check out the coordinates she found and hopefully glean some new information regarding her mother's death in the mystery TV show. Seeing as Sophie is searching for her mother, the only way for James' prediction to come true would be if her mother faked her death and willingly abandoned her. However, Sophie has finally gotten what she wanted: an opportunity to visit the Huntleys' country house. This gives her the chance to check out the coordinates she found and hopefully glean some new information regarding her mother's death in the murder mystery TV show.
