The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments over the Trump administration’s push to end legal protections for people fleeing war and natural disaster.

This includes countries such as Haiti and Syria.The justices did not rule on Monday to lift protections for hundreds of thousands of people. Their decision will allow the immigrants to live and legally work within the US for now. Previously, the conservative-majority court allowed immigration authorities to end legal protections for 600,000 Venezuelans. This decision came as lawsuits continued, exposing many of those people to deportation. After lower courts halted the immediate end of temporary protected status for 350,000 people from Haiti and 6,000 people from Syria, the Trump administration filed for emergency appeals. According to the Justice Department, it argues that the Department of Homeland Security has the sole power to end TPS protections.
