They argue the Biden administration failed to follow the proper procedures for establishing the rule that would cancel billions of dollars in debt and that they were not given an opportunity to comment before the rule was implemented.
More than 26 million people already applied for the relief, with 16 million approved, but the Education Department stopped processing applications last month after a federal judge in Texas struck down the plan. The New Orleans-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit upheld Pittman’s order a few weeks later.“The President and this Administration are determined to help working and middle-class Americans get back on their feet, while our opponents — backed by extreme Republican special interests — sued to block millions of Americans from getting much-needed relief,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement after Pittman’s ruling.
