Supervisor wants mayor to sign off on fare, parking meter increases
San Francisco lawmakers are floating a new proposal that would strip the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency of its authority to set transit fares and parking meter rates — at least on paper.
“We believe it’s important with a decision of this magnitude that impacts so many working families, merchants and otherwise, that we call out exactly who makes this decision and where the responsibility lies,” Safai said. Safai crafted the proposal after the SFMTA announced a plan in May to extend parking-meter hours from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. It also planned to establish metered hours on Sundays for the first time, from noon to 6 p.m.
For the last 50 years, one woman has manned San Francisco's Marina boat fuel station For the last 50 years Chrissy Kaplan has manned Gashouse Cove in the Marina and is now worried about a potential plan to move the fueling station. “Much of what animated the move for Proposition E back in 1999 was to put MTA and fares beyond the reach of politics, or at least a little further beyond the reach of politics,” Dorsey said, adding a 2007 proposition “preserved that.”
