The recent closure of Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, has created a huge footballing problem for teams from northern Gauteng.DStv Premiership side SuperSport United have hit out at the Tshwane municipality after being forced to find a new home venue after the Lucas Moripe Stadium was found not fit to host matches by the Premier Soccer League.
According to the club's communications manager, David Sikhosana, the Tshwane municipality failed the club in their Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium issue.The Atteridgeville-based stadium is in bad condition without a working generator and turnstiles. "We are not fixing Lucas Moripe Stadium, we are going to play our home matches in Polokwane," Sikhosana tells"We're not going back to the Lucas Moripe stadium as it has been banned."All our remaining home games will be played in Polokwane, including the fixture against Kaizer Chiefs.
"It's been 12 or 15 years of talking one and the same thing with the Tshwane municipality regarding the stadium.SuperSport currently occupy second position in the standings and will host TS Galaxy [April 7], AmaZulu [April 23] and Kaizer Chiefs [May 13] in Polokwane.
