Aboah says her advocacy is planted firmly in working to eradicate the stigma of mental health:
British supermodel and activist Adwoa Aboah says she hit rock bottom in 2014 when she walked out of rehab and tried to take her own life.
“Why do things have to get to such rock bottom before we start thinking about it?” Aboah mused to moderator Audrey Gelman at the Women in the World summit in New York.Aboah said that, while she came from a loving family, there was “no space” to talk about mental health at home or at school, where she was often the target of racist taunts as the child of an English mother and a Ghanaian father.
She wanted girls to be able to talk about sexuality, mental health and body image issues. She wanted nothing to be taboo or any subject off limits.
