The new round of castings for James Gunn's Superman: Legacy is exciting; however, the DC Universe timeline has already been broken due to it.

James Gunn's Superman: Legacy has already broken the DC Universe timeline before the movie premieres. Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge of DC Studios, with the duo actively planning the next ten years of their new DC Universe, which spans movies, series, animation, and video games.

Superman: Legacy might be the first film of the new DC Universe, focusing on Corenswet's young Clark Kent; however, the movie will not be an origin story. Superman: Legacy sees the Man of Steel live in a world that is already crawling with superheroes, and to hammer that point home, DC has just cast three heroes that will appear alongside Superman in the movie.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Casting Causes A Timeline Issue Fillion being cast as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in Superman: Legacy already breaks the DC Universe timeline before the DCU properly starts. The reason for that is Gunn's first DC movie, The Suicide Squad, featured Fillion as another DC character, TDK.

Twitter user @kamkenobi mentions that Gunn's The Suicide Squad is canon to the DC Universe, which contrasts with Superman: Legacy casting Fillion as a Green Lantern. Gunn has confirmed that two projects based on The Suicide Squad characters are part of the new DC Universe, the upcoming Waller series on Max and John Cena's Peacemaker season 2, the latter of which Gunn will jump onto after finishing work on Superman: Legacy.

The DCU Should Have Been A Total Reset Bringing characters back from the DCEU to the DC Universe is tricky. While the DCEU was not as successful as it should have been, quite a few beloved iterations of characters were part of it. Gunn picking and choosing who he wants to carry over and which actors from the DCEU can have new DC Universe roles is bound to divide fans.
