James Gunn reveals that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second film in the DCU, chosen for its exceptional script and directorial team. Gunn emphasizes the importance of quality over a grand narrative and confirms other films have been written but not yet greenlit.

James Gunn revealed that Supergirl : Woman of Tomorrow will be the second film in his DC Universe, but it wasn't always the plan. While discussing the development of the Milly Alcock-led project, Gunn explained that the script by Ana Nogueira was so exceptional that it fast-tracked the film. Craig Gillespie also joined as director quickly. Gunn stated that other films had been written, but Supergirl 's script stood out.

He emphasized that quality comes first in their projects, and Supergirl was the best option to follow Superman. Although Gunn didn't reveal the other films, fans know the first three DCU movies: Superman (July 11, 2025), Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26, 2026), and Clayface (September 11, 2026). Dynamic Duo is scheduled for June 30, 2028.
