People with expert memories – known as super recognisers – are being deployed outside bars and clubs to spot sex offenders.
Mike Neville, the chief executive of Super Recognisers International, which is training the Thames Valley Police team, said the recognisers could be walking the streets or monitoring surveillance footage. If the suspect has a police order against them they could be arrested.“They’ll dance the macarena; they won’t catch suspects. And of course they get paid whether they’re good or bad.
He said Thames Valley Police has made arrests since enlisting the super recognisers but deferred further questions to Detective Inspector Tina Wallace, who is in charge of the operation. She could not be reached for comment.
