Seth Rogen is considering a potential The Super Mario Bros. Movie spinoff about Donkey Kong. Rogen voices Donkey Kong in the upcoming game adaptation, and the movie sees Kong in a new role as he unites with Mario. While Nintendo typically pits Mario and Donkey Kong against each other, the movie starts a new chapter for the characters as they team up to defeat Bowser. Donkey Kong is only a side character, but Rogen thinks the Kongs have more potential.

The actor compared the Fast & Furious franchise to Donkey Kong, citing the similarities between the two properties. Appearances by the Kong family in The Super Mario Bros. Movie are confirmed, and it could be setting up a spinoff, continuing Donkey Kong's new adaption in his own movie.
"There’s a lot of opportunity there. Like Dom, Donkey Kong also has an impressive family. There are many Kongs introduced through the games, including Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Kiddy Kong. Like how Fast & Furious movies have each member take on a specific role, every Kong brings a special skill to the table, coming together to complete their mission. The two families also share a love of racing, with the Kongs showing off their drift skills throughout the Mario Kart games.
