The 73-year-old former Pa. high school football star is slated to undergo surgery on Feb. 6.

Arians, who coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a win in Super Bowl LV, first revealed during an appearance on “Today” that he was set to undergo surgery on Feb.

6. “Recently on The Today Show, I mentioned I would be having open heart surgery and I wanted to clarify and let everyone know the procedure I am having is a common one and is something my doctors and I have been monitoring for a number of years and they recommend I correct the issues now so I can be as good as new back on the golf course ASAP,”Arians, 73, was born in Paterson, New Jersey, but he grew up in York and played quarterback at York High before going on to play at Virginia Tech. He then embarked on a long coaching career that began in 1975 and ended with his run with the Buccaneers from 2019-through-2021. He also worked as the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts and was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2013-through-2017. He also served as the interim head coach for the Colts in 2012 when Chuck Pagano went out to receive treatment for leukemia. Arians made the health revelation during an appearance on “Today” alongside Rob Gronkowski to promote a Super Bowl ad for prostate cancer screenings.Near the end of the spot on “Today,” host Craig Melvin wished Arians good luck next week.“Yeah, hopefully the snowstorm doesn’t stop me from getting to Philly because … open heart surgery next Friday,” Arians replied.Arians helped the Steelers win a Super Bowl in 2005 and another in 2008 coaching under Bill Cowher and then Mike Tomlin.
