The field conditions were a significant point of discussion during Super Bowl LVII. This year, organizers are aiming to avoid any similar concerns. Leading up to the game, there was considerable chatter about the new grass at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The grass, the product of two years of dedicated growth and maintenance, became a focal point for conversation. However, Eagles fans can rest assured that Super Bowl LIX won't be played on that same surface.
Instead, the game will take place on the New Orleans Saints' artificial turf at Caesars Superdome. This choice comes despite the fact that 92% of players prefer natural grass to artificial turf. But sometimes, practicality dictates the playing surface, and in the case of the Caesars Superdome, artificial turf is the only option. NFL Director of Live Event Operations Steve Farago expressed confidence that players will be satisfied with the Super Bowl playing surface. 'The players should expect a clean playing surface,' Farago stated. 'It's been reviewed by our head groundskeeper. He feels comfortable and will continue to keep a close eye on it... We want to make sure it’s the utmost safe and best playing surface for our players. They’ve been working on it for weeks to make sure it’s at its highest-quality playability for our players.' The last time the Super Bowl was played on artificial turf was in 2022 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Super Bowl LIX will mark the 25th Super Bowl played on artificial turf, with most of these games taking place indoors. The turf for Super Bowl LIX was provided by Georgia-based company TurfNation, a familiar name in Super Bowl turf installations, having supplied the surface five times in the past. This year, they are debuting a new variant called TurfNation S5.
