The man's identity remains a mystery after months of work searching missing persons registers and public appeals. Now police are launching a global appeal to return the man's body to his family.
Police are launching a global appeal via Interpol to solve the mystery of a man found in Maroochy River last year.A mystery body that washed up on Queensland's Sunshine Coast has sparked a global appeal to uncover the man's identity.Police believe the body may have been in the water for three to five days before it was discovered.
"That list is generated in the event that family members from international countries finally report their family member missing," Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said.Police released an image of a likeness of the man in December 2023 in the hope of determining his identity. The man is described as Caucasian, with very short reddish-brown hair and a receding hairline.
"He just sits there almost indefinitely until the coroner is satisfied that we've exhausted all of our inquiries," Detective Mansfield said."We like to try and get in front of that before that happens, so that at least the family can make a decision around that as opposed to the coroner."
