I can’t say that the Mavs could have exercised patience and used a similar package of players and picks to pluck the true superstar off the Brooklyn roster instead of his star-crossed sidekick. The salaries are close enough that the former Suns’ salaries sent east were very similar to the price in real players Dallas paid —Durant with Luka would have been the ultimate indefensible pairing. It didn’t happen.
