A banged-up Philadelphia Eagles travel to San Francisco looking for their first win of the season, while the 49ers hope to improve their record to 3-1.
season and last Sunday's 23-23 tie with the Bengals was arguably a new low as Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson elected to punt on fourth-and-12 from the Bengals' 46-yard line with 19 seconds left in overtime after a false start had deprived his team of the chance of winning the game with a 59-yard field goal.

The Eagles quarterback averages career lows in several metrics, including yards gained per attempt, yards gained per completion and completion percentage. Wentz has the league's joint-most interceptions after three games, ranks 29th in completion percentage and is last in QB rating. The Eagles selected Oklahoma quarterback in the second-round of the NFL Draft in April, but Pederson dismissed calls for the rookie to be given the starting job. "That's a knee-jerk reaction, the Super Bowl LII-winning coach told 94.1 WIP on earlier this week."Carson's our quarterback. We're going to get it fixed. He is going to get it fixed." Pederson's 49ers counterpart, Kyle Shanahan, knows all too well the feeling of having to turn to the back-up quarterback after theforced San Francisco to start Nick Mullens last week against the Giants. Mullens seized the opportunity, passing for 343 yards and one touchdown and with Garoppolo still likely to be sidelined after not practicing this week, he could be handed a second consecutive start on Sunday night. Like Garoppolo, running back Raheem Mostert, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley remain sidelined, while star defensive endswith ACL injuries sustained two weeks ago in the win against the New York Jets. The good news for the 49ers is that George Kittle, another of the casualties from Week 2, will be back on Sunday night after recovering from a knee injury. If the 49ers are beset by injury, the picture is just as gloomy for the Eagles, who had just one wide receiver from their active roster—Greg Ward—practicing on Thursday. Fellow wideouts DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside did not practice, while tight end Dallas Goedert, who leads the team with 138 receiving yards, has been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.
