Meanwhile, a tiny amount of rain made it May’s wettest day.
Sunday’s weather in Washington seemed full of meteorological almosts and ambiguities. For example, we could facetiously note that it was officially the wettest day so far in May.
As of late Sunday, the day’s official rainfall figure was 0.02 inches. That exceeded Wednesday’s mark by 0.01 inch.Sunday seemed warm enough for many. The morning low temperature, 55, matched the average Washington low for May 7. But the afternoon high of 73 fell short of the average high for the date by one degree.
Although the day may have met many tests of thermal comfort, it also was just shy of the overall average temperature for the date. And that failure — comfortable though some may have been — meant that every day this month has fallen short of average.
