After watching the Kentucky Derby, tens of thousands of horseracing fans will leave Louisville en masse.Louisville, they call it “Departure Sunday.” Most U.S. airports see their biggest passenger volumes over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. But not so in Kentucky Bluegrass country.

“Derby is always special for our community and the busiest time for SDF as we provide a best-in-class welcome to race fans,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. American Airlines scheduled extra flights from Austin, Houston, New York, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham and Saint Louis. For its Louisville service this week, the carrier is using its premium configured Airbus A321, the first time that any airline has offered premium lie-flat first-class cabin to Louisville.
