That was the case with last year’s I Saw the TV Glow, which managed to maintain interest long after its Sundance debut. We can never have too much horror, as it’s a genre with plenty to say and where creativity can truly soar. Sundance’s 2025 lineup looks to be just as thrilling as in previous years, with Ayo Edebiri, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Dev Patel, among others, starring in what will be some of the most talked-about films at the festival. The Thing with Feathers, directed by Dylan Southern, follows a father and his two young sons as they navigate the emotional landscape of grief and healing after the sudden death of their wife and mother. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the father grappling with the loss of his wife and the surreal experiences that follow. The film promises to be a blend of drama and psychological horror, exploring themes of grief, isolation, and the fragility of reality.Another standout film is Opus, directed by Mark Anthony Green. The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri takes on the role of a writer who is invited to a secluded estate owned by a reclusive singer who vanished decades ago. The film promises a chilling exploration of celebrity worship and the dark side of fame, with Edebiri’s comedic talents adding a layer of unexpected humor to the unsettling narrative.Then there’s The Ugly Stepsister, a darkly comedic horror take on the classic fairy tale.
