Chief executives at the UK’s biggest banks have been summoned to a meeting with the financial watchdog over concerns that savings rates are lagging behind soaring mortgage costs.

The Financial Conduct Authority expects bosses from HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds and Barclays to attend on Thursday amid allegations of “blatant profiteering”.
