Record ambulance handover delays, response times and A&E waits have dominated headlines in recent weeks but the Prime Minister said 'we're going to fix this problem'
The NHS in England has 133,000 vacancies – including 46,000 nursing posts and a shortfall of 10,500 doctors –Mr Sunak promised the long-term NHS workforce plan, which will set out how much staff are needed over the next 15 years, will be published “shortly” but did not specify a date. He told UHNT staff: “That’s something you and your colleagues have been asking for, for ages. We’re finally going to do that.
Mr Sunak praised NHS workers who have pioneered a new system to manage the flow of patients through their hospital. “It’s a model we need to make sure we can do more of across the country,” he told staff.
