The Trump administration and state governors are gauging when and how to restart the economy. For businesses that make most of their money in the summer, the stakes are particularly high.
Nobody is crashing the bumper cars or taking a ride on the Sea Serpent roller coaster at Keansburg Amusement Park now. The family-owned park on the Jersey Shore pushed its opening back to at least Memorial Day because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But co-owner Bill Gehlhaus is more worried about July and August, when the company his grandfather founded does about 80% of its business. It could be weeks or more before it is clear to what extent lockdowns will be lifted or whether the season could be a total loss.
