The wet weather will be over the southcentral region beginning Thursday night and lasting into Friday. With the push of rain, temperatures will be cooler, down to the 60s for many regional locations.
Published: Jul. 25, 2024 at 5:51 PM AKDTANCHORAGE, Alaska - Thursday was a brief break between storms. A new storm pushed across western Alaska already today. Bethel dealt with record heat this week, and now an abrupt shift to rain. So far today, Bethel has had about a half-inch of rain .
It was still a 70s and 80s kind of summer day for interior and even northern Alaska. The high made it to 86 in Fort Yukon. Southcentral saw 77, the warmest reading for the region occurring at Glennallen with 77 degrees.The wet weather arrives over southcentral late Thursday night, and continuing into Friday over much of the southcentral region. With the push of rain, temperatures will be cooler, down to the 60s for many regional locations.
Although wet weather is coming, the good news is it moves out quickly too. Expect to see drying Friday night to Saturday morning. That will leave southcentral with a mostly dry weekend. Enjoy that because a second storm will impact the region Sunday night. It will also cool significantly in the interior and northern Alaska as the rain moves through, some areas could see temperatures 30 degrees cooler, like Deadhorse, after hitting 80 degrees on Thursday!The hot spot in Alaska on July 25th, 2024 was Central with 88 degrees. The cold spot was Scammon Bay, with 30 degrees.
