We have three areas of disturbed weather we are tracking, with one of them expected to become a depression or storm later today or tomorrow.

) - We continue to track the tropics here at the end of June, and things are very active. Right now, there are no tropical impacts expected to the central Gulf Coast over the next 7 days. We do not expect any of these systems to reach our area within that time frame. However, we will always keep you updated on the tropics, and let you know if there is anything of concern.

Right now, our disturbance that is already in the Caribbean is disorganized. It will move across the Yucatan Peninsula over the weekend and emerge in the southwestern Gulf. Some development is possible as it is over the warm gulf waters, but the storm will also be dealing with wind shear. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall will be a significant impact for the Yucatan Peninsula and Mexico.

The wave that has the highest likelihood of development is located 1500 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands. This system will likely become a named storm later today or tomorrow, and impact the islands late this weekend into early next week. Strengthening is possible if not likely with this system as it enters the Caribbean. The track once it reaches the Caribbean keeps it moving westward, but there is some model spread in the exact position.

Highs this weekend will be in the upper 80s and 90s. Hot and humid air will be around, but those rain showers will briefly cool things down if you are lucky. In the long-range forecast, we see little changes to our temperatures or rain chances. We have a moderate risk for rip currents in place on this Friday. Please pay attention to the beach flags and posted signs when going to the beach. Rip currents may be present.

Rain chances at the beaches will be elevated in the morning hours, before dropping as the sea breeze moves inland in the afternoon. Still, keep an eye to the sky, and remember to head indoors if you hear thunder.
