There are about 83,000 EVs on Australian roads, mostly in the big capital cities.Based on the strong start to 2023, EVs now account for about 6 per cent of car sales, said Electric Vehicle Council CEO Behyad Jafari.

Mr Jafari said he expected car manufacturers to stall the new fuel efficiency standards for as long as possible up to 2030 when it was clear it needed to be ramped up as soon as possible for Australia reach its 43 per cent emissions reduction target by the end of the decade.
