The fighting has primarily taken place between the Rapid Support Forces , an ethnically Arab paramilitary group, and the Sudanese Armed Forces — both aiming to control the country. In recent days, it has come under shelling, with the US State Department alleging some munitions were fired by the RSF — something the paramilitary group denies.

"They just enter the village, without any question… they attack the innocent people, they kill them," he said."Why go to Zamzam?" he asked.Abdul Rahman Yagoub Hamid lost five family members in Zamzam."We are dying here in between the four corners of our houses," Mr Hassan said "We need the Australian government to increase its humanitarian assistance to Sudan now … because the crisis is very big," Mr Hassan said.
