.
The BBC reports that an operation to find the submersible is under way – though it is unclear how many people were on board at the time it went missing. The wreck of the Titanic, which sank 101 years ago on its maiden voyage, lies about 3800m deep off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada in the North Atlantic Ocean. The wreck was rediscovered in 1985 and is notoriously hard to reach- withGhosts of the Abyss.
In recent years, several companies have begun to offer adventure packages to allow tourists to become “one of the few to see the Titanic with your own eyes” in “deep-diving submersibles”. The excursions typically see high-paying tourists taken out into the Atlantic on large boats. When they reach the dive site, the small submersibles descend holding only a handful of people at a time.
