Gov. Greg Abbott gets worst press in nation on LGBTQ issues, study finds

Greg Abbott received the most critical news coverage on LGBTQ+ issues of any governor in the country from April 2021 through this April, a study found.
The study was done by Signal AI, a software company that does market research and sells software to analyze news coverage online and track “sentiment” scores, showing whether the overall tenor of the coverage is positive or negative. The company is used by 40 percent of the 500 largest corporations in the world, a public relations representative said.
Abbott had the worst score, with 209 negative articles and just one positive article. He was followed by Gov. Ron Desantis of Florida, Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas and Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota — all Republicans — and finally Gov. Gavin Newsom, the California Democrat. The study ran from April 1, 2021 through April 30 of this year. During that period, Abott supported measures in the state Legislature to ban trans kids from playing high school sports except in the gender they were assigned at birth, and he asked the state’s Child Protective Services to open child abuse investigations into families where children are receiving medical care to transition their genders.
