U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) says she met with studios, producers and news media before introducing the Pandemic Risk Insurance Act of 2020 today
after discussions with studios, producers and news media, she said Tuesday.
PRIA calls for the creation of the Pandemic Risk Reinsurance Program, which would pull from public and private funding sources in order to cover business losses from pandemics or other public health emergencies, which are not currently covered by insurance.
Last week, two insurance carrier groups and an association of insurance agents proposed their own federal pandemic relief program called the Business Continuity Protection Program. That program would have businesses purchase federal revenue replacement assistance that, in the event of a public health emergency, would come from FEMA and cover up to 80 percent of losses.
