During the coldest season of the year, a group of Elizabethtown High School students are braving the elements to make their voices heard.

600 E. High St., the morning of Friday, Jan. 23, 2026. They say they will return each morning until the district addresses their concerns. During the coldest season of the year, a group of Elizabethtown High School students are braving the elements to make their voices heard.

Over the past year, the district has faced multiple issues it says it's working to fix, including a previously reported $1,000,000 deficit."There are real problems at hands that are not being addressed," junior organizer Kylee Wood said. "Currently, we had $0 allocated to our libraries because the board said they are not being used, but I don't think that should dismiss them as a helpful resource." On Thursday, over a dozen students lined up outside the school with hand-written signs that said phrases like, "honk if you're committed to quality education," and "our school is worth funding." Wood, whose been protesting with the group since Tuesday, said bridging the gap in the district's budget comes at a cost, like the high school library. Previously, the district told CBS 21 no new funding was included in the 2025-26 budget for middle and high school libraries as part of the difficult decisions needed to keep the district out of debt. The District would like to clarify that funding for library books has been included at the elementary level in the proposed 2025-2026 budget; however, no new funds were allocated for book purchases at the secondary level for the upcoming year., James Emery, the vice president & facilities chair on the Board of Directors for the district, said the board is aware of the problem but that student safety is top priority: We have an ongoing main septic issue in our building that does cause backups occasionally. We are diligently handling this on a case-by-case basis. We have had a full and completely extensive battery of air quality testing that has been conducted just within the past couple of months. This included methane and mold tests as well. The results of those tests have discovered that the air quality within our facilities is absolutely fine "It's kind of like a punch in the face," Wood said. "We know there's mold in the school because we can see it." CBS 21 reached out to the district regarding the protest and was told "students, like all members of the community, have a right to express their views and to be engaged in the civic process." The statement went on to say that "while the district is not commenting on specific platforms or proposals, it recognizes and respects students’ efforts to advocate for themselves and for future students." District administration and the school board are aware of the concerns being raised, and discussions related to the secondary school building project and its funding are ongoing at the district and board level. A public financial training and discussion session related to planning for the proposed secondary school building project is scheduled for February 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the high school.Wood said the group plans to remain outside every day between 7 and 7:40 a.m., front and center, until their concerns are adequately addressed.Man holds 3 at gunpoint for target shooting in Adams County A man from New Oxford has been charged after state police say he held three people at gunpoint earlier this month.Mark Watson, 52, pointed an "AR style rifle"At least one person is dead and multiple firefighters injured in a blaze that trapped several people inside Friday afternoon.PSP in Harrisburg have released their top five most wanted individuals for January 2026 and are asking the public for help tracking them down.Authorities in Dauphin County are continuing to file charges against dozens of local residents as part of a large-scale SNAP trafficking investigation.
