Students at John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson will be searched as they enter indefinitely and there will be an increased police presence.
The school had a delayed opening as students lined up to be searched with electronic wands. District Superintendent Eileen Shafer said the searches would be in place until further notice and there will be an increase police presence at the school.
Dalton Price, Paterson’s head of school security, said anyone who enters the building will be subject to search. The policy is already in place at Eastside High School located across town, he said. “Security that was inside the building are the ones who identified the individuals who tried to get inside,” Price said.Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh commended the security inside the building for its quick response, and Paterson police for arresting the two suspects with guns outside the school after the brawl erupted shortly before 11 a.m.
