Seven hundred and eighty University of Alaska Anchorage students are moving into their dorms this week.
Student housing this year is completely full, with many more people still on a waitlist.“We’ve actually got an increase in the number of students showing up this year compared to last year,” Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Denise Runge said.
“It’s going to be really vibrant, and we’re excited to have our halls full and our parking lots full.” One of the students moving in is junior Lacie Simmons from British Columbia, Canada. As part of the UAA Seawolves track team, she rented a U-Haul to bring her many bikes, boxes and other sporting equipment.“I have a lot of hobbies. That’s why I need a whole U-Haul,” Simmons explained. “I like to surf and bike and snowboard and do all the stuff.”“A whole storage room, a whole kitchen, huge bathroom, and a bedroom to myself,” she described when asked about the dorms. Brian Boyd was one of many parents busy helping their children carry boxes up and down stairs. His daughter is on UAA’s gymnastics team and is entering her sophomore year.“She had a great year last year, and the climate is similar to Minnesota, so she enjoyed it and just loved being here,” Boyd said.“Our main goal for students this year is that they’re successful,” Runge said. “That they enjoy their time at UAA, that they pass their classes, that they learn what they need to go on and be successful in their careers and their future lives.”U.S. and Russian delegates sleeping in dorm rooms and Trump, Putin expected to hold joint press conference in Alaska100-foot tsunami peak recorded in Southeast Alaska, report saysFairbanks North Star Borough School District students start school
